Task 4 - evaluation

Task 4 has been extremely useful in allowing me to identify my competition within the industry and finding where I fit in amongst them. It has helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses as a designer and where I need to focus within my practice to get myself ready for industry.
It has helped outline what makes me different from the competition and what makes me better than the competition, which I feel is something that I need to do more often to help establish what my USP is, and how to best market myself to make me irresistible for potential employees.
Also the SWOT analysis of graphic designer studios has been useful in outlining where there is a niche in the market for myself and how I need to apply myself to fill that niche.

Task 3 - evaluation

Task 3 was a task that I found quite difficult, however after completing I now understand why self-promotion is important. By looking into how to promote myself I have realized how important it is to get it right. Things such as business cards are a way to show potential employers and clients who you are as a designer instantly just through the design. Therefore the way I go about self-promotion is something that should not be rushed and something that I need to get 100% correct if I want to be noticed out their as a graphic designer. It has also helped show me the huge range of self-promotional tools that there is out there, especially online. After completing the task I now realize the importance of self-promotion and how desperately I need to finish off the design work for my own personal identity.

Task 2 - evaluation

This task has again been very useful in helping establish who I would like to be as a graphic designer, in this task we were asked to find examples of design studios and where who we could be looking for employment from in the future and find where they are and how they run as a company.
However I feel the part of the task that benefitted me the most was the PEST analysis of the area of design that I was interested in going into. Not having done a PEST analysis before I did not before see the benefit of one. By completing the PEST analysis of the publishing industry it helped me per see some problems which I may face in the future whilst trying to get myself into the industry. Just after researching the topic I found tons of political and economical issues relating to publishing which has helped make me realise how difficult it is to get into the industry and ways to get around these foreseen problems. The PEST analysis has also helped me see opportunities in the marked for the future, the main one that I noticed being design for screen, with on screen media growing and growing it seems that the big gap in the market is a way other than just selling PDF’s to get magazines and books available for screen, which will be something I will look further into throughout my 3rd year.

Task 1 - evaluation.

Who am I, Who are they?

I have found this task very useful in helping discover who I am/who i want to be as a designer. I have never before made a decision on the specific area of design that i wish to focus on and by outlining this i feel i have a better understanding of who i want to be as a designer. By researching into other individuals/studios that focus on this specific area i have been able to outline what i need to do in order to get myself into the industry and what i need to improve on to make sure i am ready.
Analysing myself using the 4P's has also been an extremely useful tool for me, making decisions about my practice that will help establish what i need to do in order to be ready for the industry and to get a better understanding of where i fit into the industry.
This task has been a great help in showing me who i am and where i want to be as well as what i need to do to get there.

enterprise task 5

10 statements that identify my distinctive positioning as a graphic designer.

1 - I am currently a designer highly focussed in the typographic sector of graphic design. Woking with mainly type and layout to create experimental, innovative, visually strong,  typographic solutions to problems.

2 -  Hoping to work within the publishing area of graphic design interested in mainly design for print, producing visuals for books and magazine covers aswel as going into the editorial aspect of it, experimenting with a combination of type and layout to produce innovative ideas for page layouts within the magazines/books.

3 - Going into the 3rd year of my graphic design degree at Leeds College Of Art, and still aim to ever improve my personal practice and understanding of graphic design and typography.

4 - Focussed more towards working print based media and the on going experimentation you can have with with print, however still with an interest in screen and a thirst to improve my knowledge and practice with this medium.

5 - Aswel as type i also have a huge background of working with image within my practise by only recently deciding to change my focus within graphic design from becoming an illustrator to working in publishing and editorial. I still hope to continue to work will illustration and continue to constantly improve my practice to incorporate both type and illustration within my design work.

6- I need to improve my screen based work, would be interesting to look more into web design and apply it within my practise. Maybe apply it to my own personal promotion and design my own website.

7- One of my strong points of me as a designer is my conceptual thinking, trying to come up with unique, innovative ideas to solve a brief.

8- I aim to work collaboratively where possible within my practise, working in collaborations throughout 2nd year has helped me broaden my knowledge of graphic design and different ways of working to tackle a brief. I hope to work with designers from a wide range of backgrounds to help broaden my skill sets as a designer.

9- Gather a lot of contacts and work experience within the publishing side of graphics in order to gain a larger knowledge of this area and a better understanding of how my work can be applied to this area.

10- Hope to broaden my knowledge of software that i can apply to my design work. Instead of just relying of the adobe suite to produce work i would like to try different software and different approaches to producing work in order to give a unique quality to my design work.

enterprise task 4

Who am I competing against?
Other designers who share an interest with editorial design, work for magazine/books. Type driven, experimental, print based work. Which seems to be a popular area within graphic design, a lot of designers i know are interested in focussing on editorial design.

What do they offer?
A range of different ways of working, different style, different ways of approaching a brief and different ideas. I just need to make sure that my work will stand above them. Also experience, i suppose experience within design will be something that clients/competitors will be looking for which is something that at the minute i have very little of. I need to start trying to build up my commissioned work to prepare myself for industry, not only to get some experience but to expand my knowledge of how the industry works.

What makes me better?
I think I am quite lucky as to were i chose to study my degree, studying at Leeds College of art has given me a real drive and passion for design. Also has equipped me with a huge knowledge of typography and design which is what i feel makes me better than competition. Also another thing which makes me better i feel my work is very experimental, concept driven, i always try to do something which hasnt been done before, which hopefully will be something clients/employers will pick up on.

What makes me different?

My approach to design, I try to produce/work in a way which has not been done before, try to apply different processes to producing work which is relevant to the brief and will also add a unique aspect to my work.

Here are 2 examples form the past 2 briefs of second year, within the swarovski brief me and mitch tried to apply theory behind the design work, producing all the imagery used within the designs using refraction of light through crystals. Then using photoshop edited these photographs to create the unique patterns.

Also with the codex brief which was to produce the design work for a modern science exhibition, most fo the design work was produced using processing software, using html code to create patterns and shapes to include within the designs. This was done to add some theory behind the design work to make it more relevant towards the brief and just to add an interesting aspect to it.

Another thing which makes me different from competition is that i have quite a large background of illustration, due to only recently deciding to move away from it and focus more on graphic design. However one of my focusses for 3rd year is to find a way to apply illustration within my graphic design work which will hopefully be something that makes me different from competition.

enterprise task 4

Who else is out there?

pablo abad.
http://www.pabloabad.com/

Pablo Abad is a graphic designer and art director based in Spain, most of his work being extremely refreshing design-wise. Something completely modern, experimental and different, always clear, clean-cut and heavily type driven. You can see within his design work he is heavily influenced by geometry and surrealism as it is usually applied in someway to all of his outcomes.

Here is a swot analysis of Pablo Abot as a designer, a swot analysis is useful for understanding a competitors strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. By understanding each of these it will help me find a niche in the market where i excel above him.

STRENGTHS.
One strength of Pablo Abad is that he is not strictly focussed to either design for print or design for screen, he manages to combine the 2 within his design work to a huge range of outcomes and mediums for clients in response to a brief, which would be a massive selling point for him as a designer, pushing him above other competition. Using his vast knowledge of design for screen and print he is able to produce extremely strong innovative unique pieces of well printed media as well as a range on on screen outcomes to go along side it, ranging from; gifs, animations and web assets.

Experience, Another strength that Pablo has is his experience within graphic design. Being a graphic designer for many years he is well known now for constantly producing outstanding quality outcomes for clients, which means he has been able to get commissioned work from massive clients such as 'nike', and by being experienced within design it also allows him to charge a lot more for his service.
WEAKNESSES
A weakness of Pablo's practice would be the variation of his work, not necessarily a weakness in terms of how aesthetically pleasing his design work is, more in terms of originality. If you look at allot of Pablo Abad's work you will notice that he has kind of created this style of working, simple vectors + pale, pastel, saturated colours which he in someway applies to all of his design work, leaving it all looking very similar. Which i suppose could work both positively and negatively for a designer, having your own personal unique style and way of working makes your design work instantly recognisable as your own, meaning when people would see your work out there it would be instantly be linked towards yourself and would serve as a small piece of self promotion. However having a style of working and applying it to all of your design work may serve as a detergent for clients who are looking for some originality for their products, something different from whats out there.
Aswel as experience being a huge strength for Pablo it cannot also become a weakness as-well, because i cannot offer things such as 20 years industry experience along with tons and tons of examples of beautiful outcomes for commissioned work therefore i would be forced offer my services for a much lower price than he can. Therefore making me more desirable for clients.
OPPORTUNITIES
A massive opportunity for Pablo would be to set up a design studio in Madrid with several other like minded designers. Working in a studio environment in order to take on more briefs and larger scale briefs from clients, thus bringing in more money for his business.
THREATS
A huge threat for Pablo which he might end up coming up against very soon is his style. His design work is all in this very modern, edgy, experimental, European design style which has got really popular recently thanks to websites like Tumblr where graphic design work like this has been shared by thousands of designers and is slowly influencing others to try it. However because this style seems to be the new trend for graphic designers, designers like Pablo who work solely in this style will be facing a lot more competition from other copy-cat designers.

OK-RM
http://www.ok-rm.co.uk/
OK-RM is a London based design studio founded in 2008 by Oliver Knight & Rory McGrath. Working with a broad range of clients from individuals to institutions, the studio has a project specific approach allowing for a highly varied output that encompasses visual identity, publication design, art direction, editorial and digital projects. The studio’s methodology is built on an objective to communicate the intrinsic attributes of each commission through well-crafted, thoughtful and direct solutions. A grounding in conceptual thinking and a distinctive language based typographic approach is essential to the studio’s practice.

Strengths

- Founded in 2008, but still has managed to become a heavily established studio within design with a huge range of clients
- UK based, one of the only UK based studios who work in this modern, European graphic design style , niche in the market.
- Based in the city centre of london, easily accessible for clients.

Weaknesses

- Solely print based studio, no evidence of any screen based work.
- Style of work is very modern and european, maybe a turn off for a client wanting something more traditional.
- Only 2 employees, maybe difficult to manage time around clients and running the studio, also large scale commissions maybe tough with only 2 designers.

May Ninth
http://may-ninth.co.uk/
We are a creatively led multidisciplinary design outfit based in the Northern Quarter, Manchester. Our specialities include; graphic and web design, art direction, typography, image–making, photography and bits and bobs of moving image. We work mainly in the service, art, culture, fashion, editorial and sport domains—with big clients, with small clients. We wouldn’t change it for the world.

Since 2011loading…loading…loading…

Strengths

- Massively established design studio based in manchester, with a huge client list.
- Work produced is both print and screen based, which is a huge niche in the market a studio which is able to work in both mediums.
- Studio includes allot of essential equipement for design including; all printing equipment screen printing + large scale lazer printers, lazer cutting, embosser and letter press. Owning all this equipment will lower production costs when producing work.
- Based in the norther quater of Manchester, city centre, which is easily assessable, easily found and seen by potential clients

Weaknesses

- very experimental design style, maybe not to everyones interests.
-  even though the studio is produces allot of work for screen and web design, their own website seems awkward and slow to navigate, which is not really a very good impression you would like to give to clients.

enterprise task 3

How will i promote myself?

What are the most suitable marketing methodologies for my own practice and the most effective methods to reach my potential cliental?

Within my promotional material some of the methodologies within the marketing communications mix would fit really well within promoting myself; advertising, personal selling, sales promotion, public relations, and direct marketing. Advertising and public relations are extremely important within graphic design, advertising to get your name out there and examples of your work out into the public eye and public relations to try and build contacts with other graphic designers and graphic design studios.
I feel the most important aspect of self promotion would be my own personal branding as a designer, my own self identity. Branding myself will be the most valuable part of my personal promotion and the most important aspect to get right. This is because the way i brand myself will be the way i am initially viewed by any potential clients/employees, instantly giving them an overall impression of who i am as a graphic designer and whever or not they would like work with me.
Therefore a creative, aesthetically pleasing identity will be essential if i would like successfully reach my potential cliental.

To look further into this i looked at possible ways that i could promote myself as a graphic designer;
here is some of the information i found.

[ http://freelanceswitch.com/designer/how-to-promote-your-graphic-design-business-%E2%80%93-part-one/ v4]
-listing tips and advice on how to really make your self promotional material stand out from other and outlining different ways of self promotion and the importance of each one, mainly focussing on buisiness cards and how essential they are for graphic designers.
''Business cards are your most important publicity items. ''
http://www.overnightprints.com/blog/freelance_designer_business_tips/]
-mainly showing ways for freelance designers to get their name out there but still very applicable to my chosen area of design, the site list 5 ways to help with self promotion and as you could imagine some of the advise shared is somewhat redundant but the site still stresses the overall importance of a successful business card.

http://www.davidairey.com/what-makes-a-good-business-card/
-i then stumbled upon this link which further stressed the importance of a good business card and the importance of having one, offering helpful tips for how to design a good business card and showing examples of business cards that WORKK.

“Regardless how flashy or clever your card is, if contact information is not readily available, or quickly processed, the card failed. What does it matter if someone remembered some neat trick the card does or how nice it looked if they find a hint of difficulty acquiring your information from it.”
— TERRY TOLLESON
'

'A clean, uncluttered design shows that you care about appearance and immediately sends out a professional vibe'' - David Airey,

Therefore it would seem that as a graphic designer your most important self promotional device is your business card, if you hand out your business card to a professional this will be their first glance at a piece of your work and therefore it needs to signify you as a designer instantly. So first step of my self promotion will be to design a business card, therefore if the right situation came up, i could start handing them out and hopefully hand out a good impression of my design work.

Business cards will also come hand in hand with public relations, building up an instant relationship with clients and professionals is another important principle of promotion. And is something that i urgently need to start putting more effort into, not only visiting studios and building up relationships with professionals but leaving a good lasting relationship with clients also, so that your name will spread through word of mouth and clients will keep coming back for more work.

I suppose one of my main potential cliental would be potential design studios/work placements that i am trying to gain interest from. Therefore i feel the best way of approaching promoting myself towards a certain design studio would be to personalise my promotional material towards the company itself in order to gain the most recognition. It shows that you have put time and effort into contacting a studio instead of just forwarding the same email to 20 different places, try to personalise what i am going to send to studios around them as a studio.

Another massive element of self promotion would be my online presence, i need to take full advantage of the online resources available to me to help get my name out there as a designer. Being that most of these resources are free to use also it means that these will be a very essential promotional tool for me.
Websites such at tumblr and twitter have already helped me get my work out there and viewed by thousands of people.
Having a personal webpage will also be key in getting my name out there as a graphic designer, much like the business card a website needs to reflect my style and taste as a designer because when viewed by clients/employees it will give them the overall impression of who i am. I need to build my own personal webspace that reflects my graphic design work.

enterprise task 2

What media do my potential clients/employers use?
Looking into the publishing sector of graphic design the vast majority of design studios that i will be looking for employment from will be using printed media. If i was to go into working with publishing and editorial other than producing PDF's of magazines/books to be read online most of the design work will be printed. Even though working with screen based media is something that is ever growing and a very important aspect of graphic design, their is just something about working with print that is so much better. Getting hands on with the printing allows you to experiment with the processes of print to further and further improve the overall finish of a design, and being able to hold your design work in your hand when it's finished and get a really good feel of it; working for print is definitely the area which i am more interested in and want to further push this throughout my carear.

What do you need to communicate and how does it match what your clients/employers need?
I aspire to produce visually engaging, contemporary, clean-cut, experimental type driven designs for publication. Whever that be cover/visuals for within the magazine or the layout behind the magazine. I would like to work with a completely modern, style of design, having the creative freedom be experimental with the design work. Which would match what the employer needs because it would fit in with the overall design aesthetic of the design studio/magazine company, targeting the correct audience with the design work with the modern aspect of it.

Pest analysis of the publishing industry.

A PEST analysis is a very important and widely used business tool to help oversee how their business can expand over the future looking at political, economical, social and technical factors relating to their business, helping oversee any problems that may be raised or notice and potential for expanding the business.

When looking at the politics relating to a business you need to look into specific fields that relate to the area of work/buisiness, and the social trends that could effect your business. Once you have analysed each area; political, economical, technical and social the space inbetween each one will outline business opportunities for you or your company as shown in this image.

Political
The 2.5% tax increase of last year has spread concern amongst printers in the UK who fear it could have a negative effect on consumer confidence. With rising again it could have a bad knock on effect with printing companies, with the price of printing rising the amount the consumer is willing to spend their money on printing is falling, leaving printing firms in trouble. ''According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), over 70% of small firms will be adversely affected by the hike, with 45% of 1,600 companies surveyed predicting a decline in turnover and over 50% expecting mushrooming prices.'' Meaning starting up a small publishing studio may be tough to find a printers who will print your magazine at low cost with pressure falling on printing companies to stay in profit after customer confidence has dropped. Not only that, but the overall production costs will have risen as well making you with a smaller profit margin.
[quotes from; http://www.xeretec.co.uk/news/2-5-vat-rise-to-affect-printers]
Economical
With the economic climate still in recession, starting up a business at this time will be tough, especially a publishing business due to the amount of funding needed to get it going. Due to the economy at this time you may find it hard to get a loan from the bank to start the business going. Even after that, just maintaining the company and trying to break even may be tough in this climate due to people not wanting to spend money.
Social
With magazine subscription costs being cheaper online the value of print is declining.
Using on screen media is much more cheaper, quicker and convenient that going out and buying a physical copy of a magazine, meaning with this change in social behaviour print will soon be forgotten and it will be almost impossible to start up a publishing studio.
Technological
Screen based media gained more interest recently, with more people opting for an app on their phone rather than buying a newspaper. With the growing interest in technology maybe design for print will slowly begin to decline.

enterprise task 2

Where are my possible employers?

Recently i have grown a massive interest in European design and a lot of european graphic design studios have grabbed my attention that i would love to work for.
These studios all work with this modern experimental almost post modernist graphic design style that you dont seem to find much over here in the UK. This is a design style that i have become really interested in and have tried to apply to work produced for university briefs. Hopefully i will find employment under a design studio somewhere like holland where i will be able to pursue using this design style and be allowed more freedom within briefs from clients.
Some examples of design studios that i would like to work for;

Anymade
Anymade Studio was founded in 2007 in the Czech Republic. During past years the studio evolved into a multifunctional platform whose activities combine various genres and fields, such as graphic design, photography, typography, illustration, video, motion design and sound. Anymade Studio members are Petr Cabalka, Filip Nerad and Jan Šrámek aka VJ Kolouch.

Drawswords
Amsterdam-based design studio Drawswords was founded in 2008 by graphic designer Rob van den Nieuwenhuizen (NL). The studio's work is characterized by visually strong, clear and refreshing content-based typographic solutions.

Studio Laucke Siebein
Studio Laucke Siebein is a design studio based in Amsterdam and Berlin. Its focus is on creative strategy, dynamic identities, graphic, book and web design within the scope of cultural and commercial projects.

Mainstudio
The Amsterdam-based graphic design agency 'Mainstudio' has been established by Edwin van Gelder in 2005. After graduating from from Utrecht School of the Arts in 2004, van Gelder founded Mainstudio and has worked under the name ever since. Mainstudio's projects include editorial design, books and visual identities for clients within architecture, art and fashion.

enterprise task 1 - pppp

Evaluation of myself using the 4P'a

Product

I will have to establish who i am as a graphic design in comparison to others out there before i promote myself as a product. As i am hoping to go into the editorial side of graphic design i will have to look at the competition out their in terms of other designers and promote myself above them.

Price

If the job role that i decide to go into is being the graphic designer for a magazine company which is what i would like to do after university the company could go down a few routes in terms of price. The company could be profit/non-profit, could either be a free handout magazine or a priced item. Also all profits from the magazine could come from just selling ad space itself.

Depending on what route the magazine would lead in terms of pricing would determine how much i would charge the company for my services. Pricing my services will be an interesting learning curve, i would have to base it on experience within design, charging myself for less to begin with to put myself ahead of competition without underpricing myself as a graphic designer, also would depend on the amount of hours spend working.
I would have to take allot into consideration before beginning to put a costing on myself as a graphic designer.

Place

Will i initially start working within a design studio for an already established company, will i try to promote my services as self employed graphic design graduate; then would i need a design studio?, or will i begin a small design studio with fellow graphics student splitting the cost of a design studio?
Lots of things to consider before choosing a location for my practice.
Which one would be better suited to get me into the area of design that i would like to focus on.

Promotion

Promotion will be key if i intent to get my name out there as a graphic designer. However thankfully their are tons of self promotional devices online which are free that i can use to do so.
An online presence is very important if i want to catch the attention of design companies.
I will try to use all the online promotional webpages in order to help promote myself, this would include things like;
facebook
twitter - https://twitter.com/edwisecoopstick
tumblr - eddieisnotavailable.tumblr.com
webpage - (in the process of making) eddieliamcooper.stacey.com
behance
...and many more.

I will also have to look into print based collateral that designers and design studios use to get their name out there.

Here are some interesting innovative ways that designers have used to self promote themselves.

Şahsi Kimlik Çalışması
Creative self promotions, really simple but effective idea here. Something i wouldnt really do for myself however the idea and concept behind it is really clever, instantly recognisable and engaging with clients. Good way to get your message across. Strengths; unique, clever, engaging. Weakness; visual consistency of the design throughout all outcomes becomes a bit repetitive and dull, especially with the colour limitations, maybe should stick to using the word search design to only a few of the promotional material. Opportunities; minimalise the use of the design and combine with strong typography on other pieces of self promotional things to really boost the designs, also maybe try with different stocks and print finishes. Threats; it's unique, engaging, if i saw this i would definitely pick it up and look at it, means my self promotion needs to be much better.

Takahiro Kurashima
Poemotion is an interactive book-object. The abstract graphical patterns in this small volume are set in motion as soon as you move the attached special foil across them: moiré effects allow complex forms to develop, set circles in motion and make graphical patterns vibrate. Inspired by Seesaw, an earlier book from the publisher, in a playful and at the same time minimalist way the Japanese designer Takahiro Kurashima establishes a link to the motif of a “School of Seeing” that has long occupied a special place in the program of Lars Müller Publishers. With this book the viewer can discover how, as if by magic, figures and forms are created out of optical overlays, set in motion and then disappear again. In the era of digitalization this book shows that interactivity is also possible in the format of the analogous, bound book.

enterprise task 1

What skills/interests do i have and how do they relate to the needs of my client group?
Hopefully the client group that i hope to work with will allow me to have the freedom to be experimental with my outcomes. I hope to work either as the graphic designer for a magazine company or to work within a studio environment mainly focussing on the publishing and editorial side of graphic design. I feel my conceptual thinking is strong, coming up with strong innovative concepts for design work, which is why i feel i would work best working for a company/design studio with an interest in contemporary design allowing me to be experimental with the processes behind the design work and the overall finished aesthetics of finished outcomes. This would relate to the client group by providing them with contemporary graphic design work which would fit the target audience. My growing knowledge of typography would be another one of my skills, being focussed on image for most of my practice and only just deciding to change to working with type, my knowledge of type is not as strong as others in the year group at this moment, however with my ever growing interest and practice with working with type I am starting to produce some really nice pieces of type driven outcomes. My on going improvement of my type skills is essential if i would like to focus on working with publishing.

What Skills are needed and what skills do you want to develop?
Typography, as i said previously my knowledge of typography could be improved massively, which would be very essential if i hope to pursue the carear of working with publishing and editorial design. My interest with typography is constantly growing and i feel with the on going constant practice as well as research my skills and knowledge of typography will soon be ready for industry.

What are your professional/creative aims and how do they relate to the needs of the client group?
Get as much industry experience, look into sorting out placements and studio visits at studios that interest me, to help me see what is out their in terms of where i could take my design work and gain a strong focus on what area of design i would like to focus on as a designer. Also to self promote myself as much as possible in order to get my name out there, try to get commissioned work over summer to see what it would be like working as a graphic designer. All just things to help me sort out what i should do with my life.

enterprise task 1

The area that i am most interested in focussing on within my graphic design practice would be publishing, looking at creating visuals for magazines and booklet covers aswel as going into the editorial side of it and designing the overal layout of magazines with this in mind working mainly with design for print however trying to someway incorporate screen based media for outcomes. Working within in a graphic design studio creating a vast range of work for clients however mainly focussing on publishing. or being the graphic designer for a magazine company both allowing freedom for experimental, innovative design work. It is just quite hard to but a pin in where i want to take my focus within graphic design being that i have only recently moved from illustration to gain an interest in graphic design, although i know it would hopefully lie within the publishing side being that recently I have gained a growing interest in the field.
My main inspiration for focussing on this area of design would come from design studios such as 'studio laucke siebein' in Netherlands, 'Say-what' in france and a magazine editors in spain which always features modern experimental design 'Jpeople'. Each of these studios produce the type of work that i can see myself doing when i graduate, and are definitely places i should contact for studio visits.

studio laucke siebein
Probably one of my favourite design studio at the minute, ran by 3 graphic design graduates in Netherlands receives a huge range of commissioned work in almost every client group focussing mainly on magazine and book design however it seems they are allowed complete freedom for experimentation with their outcomes.

Say what
Another design studio in France which focusses mainly on publishing and editorial design for their work produced. Always keeping up to date with modern design and show this with their outcomes.

J people
This is not strictly a graphic design studio but somewhere i could definitely see myself working later on in life, working somewhere like this. Jpeople, is a magazine company that all work together in a studio environment from editors to writers to graphic designers, being part of the graphic design team for this type of company would be a really interesting roll, allowing you to be completely experimental with your outcomes, giving yourself pretty much complete freedom with the design work and keep up to date with contemporary design.

enterprise task 1

Who am i as a creative in relation to who is out there?
Originally i wanted to creative practise to solely be illustration, not working in a studio environment working
on my own for my self maybe with a few collaborations and hopefully with enough self promotion and
commissions and work to get my name out there i will hopefully be big enough within illustration for
clients to target me for commissions as well as selling prints, books and other merchandise through my
website.

However throughout the coarse of the second year my interests within design have changed, by trying

new approaches towards answering briefs i have become more focussed within more typographic,
experimental, concept driven graphic design outcomes.
i feel now the area i would like to go into within graphic design would now be magazine and book
design, focussing on experimental outcomes within magazine cover design and the editorial and
layout aspect of it.
Working within a studio environment would something that interests me now also, allowing me to
work as a team focussing on a huge range of clients and possible outcomes who would be interested
in work produced in my style.
