PPD LEVEL 05 PRESENTATION.

business card ideas...

Mock up business card concepts.

Not really what i would like to use as my professional business card, however im trying to design all my personal branding around what i feel will grab the attention of the design studios i aim to visit over summer,
trying to design something a little, out there,  like the design work that produce.

An idea i had was to personalise my business cards personally for each studio i visit, and then have a professional business card to hand out to others, theirfore making me a bit more memorable when i pay visits to the studios.

These are just mock ups though and need allot of changes.

Not really too pleased with these design, it's a start though..

Web presence... designing a website.

After the web sessions building our own personal website from scratch seemed like an extremely daunting task, however i discovered a web builder that you download for free where you can easily build your own website. Still need a knowledge of HTMP coding but the overall process is massively simplified.
I began building my personal webpage to showcase my work by modifying a basic template provided by stacey, was quite awkward to set up initially, getting my head around the terminology of web design again and the software itself but once i got the hang of it it became quite quick and painless.

applying pages and links to the website to show my work, also trying to get all the main links fully functioning.

creating space for images of work and trying to import images.

you use text editor within the programme to alter all the elements of the website, such as link name and the content itself, here is the text editor file for the contact page.

Changed the layout slightly to give it a more minimal, crisp look.

webpage showcasing my work.

Website isn't yet live, however i have made a start and almost got it finished and ready to go live. Just need to neaten up a few pages and link, upload a few more pieces of my work then we should be ready.

TUMBLRRRR

checked back on tumblr, straight away got myself 11 reblogs. Which means my design work is now on someone else's  tumblr as well as each of their followers news feed.
Feels good, that someone liked your work enough to post it on their own blog. Hopefully this will keep happening.

web presence - tumblr.

Decided to set up a tumblr the other day,
ive been using tumblr for a while now but never to showcase my own design work just for looking at current designs for my design context blog and to keep up to date with current design trends. Due to using it for this amount of time ive realised the potential it has to get your work out their quickly and maybe get yourself noticed.
Just get discovered by a popular blog with a large amount of followers, if they reblog you, your work will be instantly showcased to thousands of people.
Dont really know why i havn't bothered with this before, i feel i now have a fairly strong enough body of work that i am actually happy with and would like to be seen by everyone.

Nice simple, crisp, straight to the point layout, should probably stick my logo on their somewhere but im not really massively happy with the progress of my self branding at the minute.

Further branding concepts.

Decided to have another go at branding myself,
about time i got this finished on this if i want to sort out studio visits in Holland over summer.
Branding myself seems to be one of the most difficult things i have done, trying to come up with an identity that reflects every aspect of me as a designer...

Started working on this, merging the C and the E of my initials for the logo, not really anything amazing but definitely the best one as of yet..
might have to do for now.
dont think i will ever get a logo that i am 100% happy with, i seem to have the most awkward name and initials ever for designing.

branding - initial ideas.

Initial concepts and idead for branding myself...
A few quick ideas for a potential logo, havnt really had much time recently to put allot of effort into PPD but it's probably about time i started applying myself.
Finding it really hard to brand myself though, the obvious thing of just using my initials isnt really working, but nothing else would really work. I guess i dont directly need a logo, could just use my name written in a well thought-out typeface.
Anyway here are my initial attempts at branding myself.

Trying to focus my personal branding around style the studios i aim to visit, the contemporary european style..

INSERT SCAN OF DESIGN SHEET..

Nothing too strong here to be honest, maybe im designing out of my comfort zone trying to work in a style that im not particularly confident working with.
Maybe i should just stick to being myself, design companies should like me for what i am, not pretending to be something i am not..

Plan for summer - maybe...

Probably going to save up my money working full time over the first half of summer then visit Neverlands  in around August, try to visit as many studios there as possible while im over and hopefully make a few contacts that i can take back to leeds with me. I need to fully finalise my plans however first before sending emails and that, don't want to mess around with potential studio visits, i should just get everything fully prepared untill i know if i will be able to go ahead with this. This means, branding myself, buisiness cards, online presence. Also sort out extending on my part time hours at sainsburys for around a month to try and save up some money.

Studio Laucke Siebein - a design studio ive been interested in for a while now, only just noticed where they are based though, Neverlands. Should pay these guys a visit if i go over in summer, their design work is always extremely crisp, modern and minimal, whilst still having an experimental 'edgy' style to it. Very unique work, that is always perfect for the purpose. Working here would probably be a perfect job after uni.

drawswords - design studio.

Amsterdam-based design studio Drawswords was founded in 2008 by graphic designer Rob van den Nieuwenhuizen (NL). The studio's work is characterized by visually strong, clear and refreshing content-based typographic solutions.
Drawswords designs for both cultural and commercial fields and works on projects such as visual identities, publications and editorial design, websites, music packaging, artist books and other printed matter like posters and flyers. The studio also initiates projects of its own, like the Langscapes collaborations with several well-known composers.

Another really nice Dutch graphic design studio, this area of work is something i am very interested in looking further into and hopefully visit these style of studios.
All the best graphic design seems to be from Neverlands, im probably gunna have to make a trip over there in summer.
should start looking into saving up some money and making some contacts with the studios.

mainstudio - design studio

Mainstudio's projects include editorial design, books and visual identities for
clients within architecture, art and fashion.  Really crisp, modern, colourful graphic design.

Mainstudio is another European based graphic design studio, focussing on experimental graphic design.
If i go ahead with my plans to go to Europe over summer, this is definitely somewhere i should hopefully visit.

design studio, YOUR FRIENDS

OUR FRIENDS is a norwegian, Oslo based graphic design studio, founded by Carl Gürgens and Henrik Fjeldberg. The studio work in different fields of graphic design and develop solutions for identities, exhibitions, book design, editorial design, posters, musicpackaging, websites, typefaces etc. Their work is focused around cultural and commercial projects, as well as selfinitiated projects, specializing in print.

Another design studio that i have been really interested in recently, really love their experimental type work. An are of design that i would like to go into. However, again it is based in Europe, all the good studios seem to be in Europe, maybe this is my calling in life.
Might have to plan a trip to europe over summer to get some studio visits because UK based ones arnt really that exciting for me..
